CHICAGO (CBS) — A Chicago woman, who was hurt in a Megabus accident near St. Louis earlier this month, is filing a lawsuit against the bus company.
Jamie Schultz claims the company failed to maintain and inspect the bus and its tires in order to ensure rider safety.
The suit also blames the driver for the crash, which left one passenger dead and 47 hurt.
Illinois State Police said a blown tire appeared to have caused the bus to veer off the roadway, but that a full investigation could take weeks.
The Megaebus was on its way to St. Louis to make a stop, when it crashed about 60 miles away from the city, near downstate Litchfield, Ill.
State police say more than 70 people were on board when the bus crashed into a concrete bridge support along Interstate 55.
The bus originated in Chicago and was ultimately headed to Kansas City.
But in the past two years, Chicago Megabus has had seven crashes with at least four injuries and two fatalities.
